The Perfect Man (2005) Review

This fluff piece actually isn't that bad. Don't get me wrong - it's not that great either, but it could be worse. It could be a whole lot worse.

Pop princess Hilary Duff blogs about her life as a put-upon teen who is constantly uprooted as her mom (played by Heather Locklear) moves them about the country in her search for the perfect man.

In their latest stop, they've landed in Brooklyn, and generally speaking, Duff is happy. That is, until her mom starts dating a new loser who is stuck in the eighties. Not that there is anything wrongs with the eighties. She just had higher hopes for her mom.

So with the assistance of her new school pal and a kindly uncle, they come up with the perfect man. Unfortunately, he doesn't exist. But that doesn't stop them from making him ever more real with instant messaging conversations and even an ill-advised phone call. Of course, this doesn't go over so well, and in the end it results in the kind uncle ending up getting his restaurant destroyed in a fake fire drill.

Naturally there isn't much surprise either, as the mom ends up where you'd expect. But it is reasonably well done, and there are a few laughs along the way. Except there's no telling how they get away with the destruction of a reasonably high-end dining establishment with absolutely no consequences. That's a bit of a stretch.

Rated PG for some mildly suggestive content.

About Celluloid Heroes

Welcome to Celluloid Heroes! Here you will find movie reviews of all shapes and sizes. No stone is left unturned, and that is meant quite literally. In fact, you are probably quite unlikely to find the best of the best, as that's something that you can find elsewhere. Here you're more likely to find the dregs of the movie world than anything else.

As to the name? It's actually from a song by The Kinks, and while it may or may not have something directly to do with movies, it does mention quite a few movie stars and things that make you think about movies, and well, it just seemed appropriate. Hopefully you'll agree, and if not, I suspect it won't get in the way too much.

Thanks for visiting, enjoy your stay, and come back often..
