The Girl Next Door (2004) Review

This coming-of-age movie has one variation that most don't. The girl (Elisha Cuthbert) is - or was recently - a porn star.

And in the middle, she goes back to Las Vegas for an appearance at the annual convention to be one again, before the boy goes back to rescue her from her evil boss (Timothy Olyphant). Naturally that won't work out well. A high school kid at an adult film convention?

Speaking of our hero, young Matthew, he wants to win a scholarship to Georgetown for moral strength. That's not likely to happen. Dating a (possibly former) porn star probably isn't the way to do so, and hanging out with her (possibly former) boss to gain favor isn't going to help either.

As you may guess, he doesn't win. But of course everything does turn out well in the end as he and his friends turn the tables on the evil Kelly (Olyphant) by filming their own video during their senior prom and turning a tidy profit, to provide their own scholarship fund. It all works out.

Rated R for strong sexual content, language and some drug/alcohol use.

About Celluloid Heroes

Welcome to Celluloid Heroes! Here you will find movie reviews of all shapes and sizes. No stone is left unturned, and that is meant quite literally. In fact, you are probably quite unlikely to find the best of the best, as that's something that you can find elsewhere. Here you're more likely to find the dregs of the movie world than anything else.

As to the name? It's actually from a song by The Kinks, and while it may or may not have something directly to do with movies, it does mention quite a few movie stars and things that make you think about movies, and well, it just seemed appropriate. Hopefully you'll agree, and if not, I suspect it won't get in the way too much.

Thanks for visiting, enjoy your stay, and come back often..
