RV (2006) Review

Robin Williams is back on the big screen in this story about a family on what might be their last leg (and that's before they start their trip).

What he has told them is that he's canceled their trip to Hawaii so that they could spend some time together in an RV, going across the country in order to get to know each other again. What he hasn't told them is that he has to be at the other end of the trip in a few days for a presentation, and this gives him time to put it together.

So during the trip he tries to hide the fact from them that he has to compose a presentation during those few days, and send it to his boss from out-of-the-way places where he can't get a connection anyway.

Along the way they meet the Gornickes, who travel the country full-time in their retro-classic RV, and as you would expect, they are overbearing and they are the last people you'd want to be your friends, but as you would also expect, they are the ones who come through at the end.

You have to check reality at the door - there is a teenage girl who listens to The Runaways (or at least a song by them), an RV that rolls right where it should, and crushes two regular-sized cars flat and plenty of cuts between Robin Williams and his stunt double where it isn't quite right and you can tell that it's not the same guy. But it's enjoyable, and that's the whole point, isn't it?

Rated PG for crude humor, innuendo and language.

About Celluloid Heroes

Welcome to Celluloid Heroes! Here you will find movie reviews of all shapes and sizes. No stone is left unturned, and that is meant quite literally. In fact, you are probably quite unlikely to find the best of the best, as that's something that you can find elsewhere. Here you're more likely to find the dregs of the movie world than anything else.

As to the name? It's actually from a song by The Kinks, and while it may or may not have something directly to do with movies, it does mention quite a few movie stars and things that make you think about movies, and well, it just seemed appropriate. Hopefully you'll agree, and if not, I suspect it won't get in the way too much.

Thanks for visiting, enjoy your stay, and come back often..
