Must Love Dogs (2005) Review

Diane Lane stars as lovesick Sarah Nolan, who just can't seem to get her life on track after her husband left her for a (significantly) younger woman. Now her sister is pushing her to try dating via the Internet, and her first try nets her a date... with her dad.

Meanwhile, her dad actually seems to be doing pretty well at this Internet dating thing - at least, he typically seems to have a number of women who he is hanging out with, which doesn't help Sarah feel better at all. As it turns out, he's just trying to pass the time, because after spending more than 40 years with the love of his life, he knows he cannot hope to compete.

This helps a bit, and so Sarah tries again (and again and again).

As it turns out, Jake (John Cusack) has friends that are every bit as nosy as Sarah's sisters, and he signs Jake up for a date with Sarah, and as it happens, Jake likes Sarah, so they try and try again to get together, but one thing or another invariably gets between them.

Of course, at the end things work out just in the nick of time, because that's just the way things go in movies like this, and everyone lives happily ever after. A charming little film that runs a little long and a little slow.

Rated PG-13 for sexual content.

About Celluloid Heroes

Welcome to Celluloid Heroes! Here you will find movie reviews of all shapes and sizes. No stone is left unturned, and that is meant quite literally. In fact, you are probably quite unlikely to find the best of the best, as that's something that you can find elsewhere. Here you're more likely to find the dregs of the movie world than anything else.

As to the name? It's actually from a song by The Kinks, and while it may or may not have something directly to do with movies, it does mention quite a few movie stars and things that make you think about movies, and well, it just seemed appropriate. Hopefully you'll agree, and if not, I suspect it won't get in the way too much.

Thanks for visiting, enjoy your stay, and come back often..
