Nothing But Trouble (1991) Review

The story begins in a classy residential building in New York, where Chris Thorne (Chevy Chase) is trying to meet a girl (Demi Moore). As men have a habit of doing, he quickly volunteers to help out - in this case, by driving her the next day on a trip to Atlantic City.

They take a detour on this trip by looking at a mapping device that looks like a GPS of some sort (unlikely what we see today, being that the movie is from 1991) and end up in the remote mining town of Valkenvania, run by the Reev (Dan Aykroyd).

As most of you know, you don't want to break the law in a town like this, so it's unfortunate that he runs a stop sign and some time later finds a police officer (John Candy) in his rearview mirror. Had he just stopped it might have been okay, but unfortunately he didn't, he tries to outrun him.

And... he doesn't. So they end up in front of the Reev, and are eventually forced to spend the night as guests of the court so they can attend a hearing the next day. The courthouse is something like a funhouse at a carnival, and the residents of Valkenvania are a bit like carnival workers themselves. There isn't much redeeming about this movie, though John Candy in drag is certainly a site to see!

Rated PG-13 for language and generally disturbing images (including that of John Candy in drag).

About Celluloid Heroes

Welcome to Celluloid Heroes! Here you will find movie reviews of all shapes and sizes. No stone is left unturned, and that is meant quite literally. In fact, you are probably quite unlikely to find the best of the best, as that's something that you can find elsewhere. Here you're more likely to find the dregs of the movie world than anything else.

As to the name? It's actually from a song by The Kinks, and while it may or may not have something directly to do with movies, it does mention quite a few movie stars and things that make you think about movies, and well, it just seemed appropriate. Hopefully you'll agree, and if not, I suspect it won't get in the way too much.

Thanks for visiting, enjoy your stay, and come back often..
