Kat (Debra Messing) is fairly miserable. She's been invited to a wedding and her ex will be there. Worse yet, she doesn't have a date, so she does what any woman would do. She hires an escort. Yes, an escort.
Nick (Dermot Mulroney) will be her date. She pays him six thousand dollars and gives him a first-class plane ticket to London to show up and be wonderful, which she figures will make her ex insanely jealous, winning him back (or at least making him feel miserable, which is at least as good).
Of course, Nick is perfect in just about every way so she finds herself slowly falling for him. The only problem is that he's a little too smug and he just keeps telling her that she is the one who is making herself miserable, which doesn't help at all.
As the wedding gets nearer things are getting better and better until one day she finds out that he's known a secret about her sister (who also happens to be the bride) and her ex (who isn't the groom), but didn't tell her and she just blows up at him, so he does what any sane person would do - he leaves to head back to New York.
She, of course, is miserable, until she discovers that he has left her the money - all of it - and realizes that there really was something special going on and they quickly make up, and the wedding, which was in shambles, comes off wonderfully and everyone lives happily ever after. An enjoyable afternoon movie without too much depth to it, but quick and witty with a few good laughs along the way.
Also keep an eye out for Jack Davenport, who has a smallish role as Edward.
Rated PG-13for sexual content including dialogue.
