The Santa Clause 2

With a similar premise as that of Meet the Santas, it seems that Santa is in need of a bride. Since this one came out three years before that one, I’ll have to say that they had the idea first. But who really knows?

In any case, it seems that Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) has settled into his role of Santa very well. But recently he’s been losing a little weight and it seems that the magic that made him into Santa so convincingly the first time around is leaving him. What is odd is that it took so long to happen. Perhaps there is a statute of limitations on how long Santa can operate without a wife, or maybe it’s only once someone realizes that he is supposed to have a wife. I don’t know. But it’s happening.

Frankly, I want to know what happened to the old Mrs. Claus. It seems that since the old Santa fell off of the roof in the first go-round, she ought to be roaming around somewhere. Or does she just disappear? Those little ends just bug me. Someone needs to think about these things.

In any case, the other problem is that Scott’s son, Charlie (Eric Lloyd) is acting up a bit at school. It seems that his principal (Elizabeth Mitchell) is a bit of a stickler when it comes to spending school funds on decorations and he has no qualms about letting her know. He’s also quite the spray-paint artist, but that doesn’t seem to impress anyone.

Since Scott needs a wife, and has to deal with Charlie too, he decides to head down to regular life for the next month or so, and Bernard (David Krumholtz) gives him a watch to keep track of his magic. If it drops to zero, there is no magic left, so he needs to not let that happen.

Charlie promises to not get in trouble at school, but that doesn’t happen, so it seems like Scott shows up time and time again to meet the principal, and Scott ends up using most of his magic to impress her – but when it gets down to crunch time, he simply has to tell her that he is Santa Claus. When he does, she thinks he’s trying to duck out of the relationship, and she kicks him out. Things look dim, and they don’t get better.

Up-and-coming elf Curtis (Spencer Breslin) convinced Scott and Bernard to create a duplicate Santa using a toy duplicating machine. That way Santa could stay at the North Pole while Scott was away. But it seems that the duplicate Santa wants to run things his own way, so he creates an army of toy soldiers that are going to distribute coal to everyone in the world unless something happens and fast.

Calling on the services of the Tooth Fairy (Art LaFleur), Scott catches a ride to the North Pole, only to get caught up himself. But it’s Charlie and the principal, Carol, who also hitch a ride with The Molinator, who provide last-minute reinforcements and really save the day. After getting married by Mother Nature (Aisha Tyler), Santa is ready for business once again as Christmas is saved!

Rated G.

About Celluloid Heroes

Welcome to Celluloid Heroes! Here you will find movie reviews of all shapes and sizes. No stone is left unturned, and that is meant quite literally. In fact, you are probably quite unlikely to find the best of the best, as that's something that you can find elsewhere. Here you're more likely to find the dregs of the movie world than anything else.

As to the name? It's actually from a song by The Kinks, and while it may or may not have anything to do directly with the movies, it does mention quite a few movie stars, and things that make you think about movies, and well, it just seemed appropriate. Hopefully you'll agree, and if not, I suspect it won't get in the way too much.

Thanks for visiting, enjoy your stay, and come back often.
