The rumor says that if Elektra (Jennifer Garner) is going to kill you, she will whisper in your ear before you even know that she is there.
As the movie opens, we see that Elektra can indeed defeat an entire army of people who have been assigned the task of defending a single person. Naturally she gets past them without so much as breaking a sweat or even making it seem like a difficult task. But that is what she does.
Next up, we see that she then goes home and plays house. Or at least she cleans really, really well because she "doesn't want to leave any of her DNA". What I don't get is why she chooses such flowing costumes and long hair if she's concerned about DNA. But I won't worry about that for the moment, because frankly, after the initial scene, she doesn't really use quite the same outfits.
What does happen is that she gets offered a new assignment, and even though she doesn't accept it at first, the allure of money - a lot of money - attracts her to do one more job before she takes a break.
But then she ends up in a house, just sitting around. The house, for what it is worth, looks a lot like the house used by Harrison Ford in Firewall. He's not in this movie, but the house looks very similar.
While Elektra waits for her assignment, she mostly swims around, and then makes friends with a young girl next door, who appears to be trying to set Elektra up with her dad. And then the assignment comes through. It's to kill the girl and her dad.
For whatever reason, Elektra decides that she's not interested in killing any longer, and she now becomes the defenders of these people. Which isn't easy, since The Hand i now sending assassins against them. They also dissolve into this green mist when they die, but that's just strange, and killing them is the tough part.
Once Elektra has taken a few of them out, The Hand decides to assign the task to their special killing force, made up of some people with really cool tricks up their sleeves. One guy has tattoos that come to life, a girl can kill you by various diseases just by blowing them at you, another guy has rock-hard skin and the other guy is like a super-ninja. Super-ninja also seems like he is the one who killed Elektra's mother, but he seems to be about her age, so I'm not really sure how that works.
Everyone chases everyone, and the final showdown happens at Elektra's estate, where everybody runs through the labyrinth of bushes. It's actually sort of cool looking. That's when Elektra finally realizes her own powers and manages to overcome the forces of darkness (or whatever they are called) and save everyone. The end.
The movie isn't as bad as I thought that it would be, but it's not that great either.
Rated PG-13 for action violence.
