As with the first time around, it’s Matthew Lillard as Norville ‘Shaggy’ Rogers that steals the show. While it’s unlikely that Scooby Doo himself could have been done in any way other than with computer animation, and it demeans Lillard’s performance somewhat.

The original enjoyment of seeing the live-action crew is lost a little, but it’s still an enjoyable movie, especially with the re-creation of the Black Knight’s ghostly manor, as seen in the introduction to so many episodes (for those of us who remember back that far!). What would have been nice would have been a good old-fashioned chase scene with some of the original music.

All of the details of the movie sort of run together, but there is a great performance by the incomparable Peter Boyle as Old Man Wickles. So sad to see him go.

Unfortunately the focus on this sequel was more about what they could do with the animation than anything else, and rather than actually making a decent movie, it was about simply sticking things together and seeing what held. In the end, nothing really held and it was a bit of a mess.
