Janet (Bridget Fonda) just wants someone to say gesundheit when she sneezes, but on-and-off-again boyfriend Cliff (Matt Dillon) is more concerned about his band than Janet (Cliff also serves as something of a narrator).

Meanwhile, Linda (Kyra Sedgwick) and Steve (Campbell Scott) have their own troubles in a relationship that they can’t define.

First it’s on, then it’s off, and then no one quite knows what is happening as it seems wonderful, and then it seems horrible, and then it doesn’t seem like anything at all as they go through their daily grind.

Ultimately, we get to see an inside look at how things revolve around these singles and their apartment building in a small section of Seattle during this tiny piece of an important decade, and all throughout we get to hear plenty of the music that made this an important cultural event.

The soundtrack certainly helps, but the dialogue is good too. It’s an enjoyable ride, if not a particularly grand one – it helps that the movie goes by quickly and holds plenty of laughs along the way.
